Welcome to the 43rd Malcolm Wilson Rally

It always gives me great pleasure to welcome you to M-Sport and the Malcolm Wilson Rally.

Last year was an amazing year for us all here at Dovenby Hall, and it all began when we secured the services of Sébastien Ogier. It was a major coup for the team and gave us that extra momentum to win the FIA World Rally Championship for both drivers and manufacturers. The whole of the M-Sport team stepped up another level to bring the titles back to Cumbria and those final 20 minutes of Dayinsure Wales Rally GB are something that I will never forget. Firstly, Ott Tänak crossed the line and that was the manufacturers’ crown. Then, Seb crossed the line to give us our very first drivers’ title. Then, to top it all off, Elfyn Evans crossed the line to secure his maiden victory and an M-Sport win on home soil. It really was the Triple Crown and something that will be hard to replicate in the future.

I’d like to personally thank you all for the support throughout the year. It is much appreciated by the whole team and we hope that we can look forward to your backing once again in 2018. Rallye Monte-Carlo is not far away and we have not eased back. Work has continued over the Christmas period and I am delighted that Ford has stepped up their technical support that will allow us to continue the development of the Ford Fiesta WRC.

For once Mexico is not on the same weekend as the Malcolm Wilson Rally and I should therefore be able to attend. This year, the event will start from M-Sport. Granted, a 7am start tends not to attract large crowds so the organisers have arranged to close Cockermouth’s historic town centre Main Street for scrutineering under floodlights on Friday. This should prove a real draw for spectators who have not previously had an opportunity to view the preliminaries due to space and security restrictions at Dovenby Hall. Cockermouth welcomes the event so please use the facilities in town for hotels, pubs and restaurants. All of our local businesses are looking forward to your visit.

Until then, all that remains to be said is good luck and drive safely. And, if you are spectating, please follow the Rally Code and stay inside the designated areas.
