It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to M-Sport to take part in “our rally”. I have supported this event for many years as a contribution to grass roots sport and I am delighted that in difficult times it will go ahead as usual. With gravel rallying in Wales and Scotland facing problems, M-Sport and Cockermouth are ready to welcome you all! I see there is a new challenge series this year which I am happy to see in Cumbria.
Many of you will have seen the results of our efforts which started last year to run cars in the Dakar event. Sadly , Carlos Sainz didn’t have the best of luck but the hard work of the team in designing, building and testing a car from scratch are acknowledged.
In World Rallying, I am sad to see Adrien Formaux move to a competitor, but at this level it is all about the money. In a way I am delighted that he has been recognised as a future Champion, I just wish it was with M-Sport! Testing is currently underway for Monte Carlo and the M-Sport team is ready for that challenge and as always will give of their best! Last year the atmosphere in the night stages for this event were incredible with many local people stood in the dark to watch you through Hobcarton and Comb. I sure you will provide good spectating in daylight!
